Abstract:

OVERLAP syndrome is defined as presentation of a combination of two or more connective tissue diseases in one patient .Herein; we present a 34 years old lady with previous diagnosis of rheumatoid arthritis referring to us with dyspnea on exertion and some other subtle features of systemic lupus erythematous, systemic scleroderma and dermatomyositis. Her HRCT showed diffuse ground glass appearance in both lung fields, typical of alveolitis. She showed dramatic response to multiple pulse steriod therapy with resolution of her pulmonary and extra-pulmonary symptoms.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND: Causing site direct mutation can be one of the efficient methods to evaluate the characteristics and properties of various genes. Brucellosis is the most common zoonotic infectious disease that would cause great economic losses. Thus, recognition of pathogenic and immunogenic factors in the genus Brucella can lead to control this health problem.OBJECTIVES: Considering the importance of site direct mutation in identification of genome structure and numerous ways to achieve this goal, OVERLAP Extension PCR is introduced as an improved technique for the REMOVAL and replacement of the gene target.METHODS: For this study, with two-step PCR using specific primers, upstream and downstream fragments from target gene and antibiotic resistance cassette from plasmid pET28a (+), were reproduced and were connected to each other. The resulting fragment was cloned in specific position of pBluescriptIISK(-) plasmid by the restriction enzymes. Then, the construction was transferred into the genome of Brucella abortus by electroporation method.RESULTS: Fusion PCR product was obtained without any change in the nucleotide sequence and then it was cloned into pBluescriptIISK (-) plasmid, finally the construction was replaced and the target gene was deleted.CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study show that the OVERLAP Extension PCR is an optimized and modified technique to create mutations in the bacterial genome structure and can easily be used in the family Brucella.

Abstract:

OVERLAP syndrome, which is known as the coexistence of chronicobstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), was first defined by Flenley. Although it can refer to concomitantoccurrence of any of the pulmonary diseases and OSA, OVERLAP syndrome iscommonly considered as the coexistence of OSA and COPD. This diseasehas unique adverse health consequences distinct from either conditionalone. Given the high prevalence of each solitary disease, OVERLAPsyndrome is also likely to be common and clinically relevant. Despite thefact that OVERLAP syndrome has been described in the literature for nearly30 years, paucity of evaluations and studies limited the discussion ondiagnosis, prevalence, pathophysiology, treatment, and outcomes of thisdisease. This review article addresses these issues by reviewing severalrecent studies conducted in Iran or other countries. This review suggeststhat OVERLAP syndrome has worse outcomes than either disease alone. Ourfindings accentuated the urgent need for further studies on OVERLAPsyndrome and all OVERLAPs between OSA and chronic pulmonary disease toprovide a deeper insight into diagnosis and non-invasive treatments of thisdisease.

Abstract:

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: OVERLAP of primary headaches is common and it causes difficulty in correct diagnosis and effective management of headache. METHODS: This study was done on patients with headache. The headache was diagnosed by a neurologist according to criteria that developed by international headache society. All patients were followed up at least for three times. The effect of sex on OVERLAP of migraine and tension headaches were analysed by chi-square test and differences was considered at p<0.05.FINDINGS: Within 531 studied patients (395 were female and 136 were male), OVERLAP of migraine subtypes occurred in 40.7% of females and 32.1% of males with migraine. Also, tension headache was observed in 30% of females and 18.6% of males with migraine that it was not statistically meaningful. One of five males with cluster headache was involved in trigmenal neuralgia and one of two females with chronic paroxysmal hemicrania had migraine.CONCLUSION: Coexistence of primary headaches was common and there was not a significant difference between males and females.

Abstract:

An overview (a review of reviews) is a new type of evidence synthesis that has been recently considered. Due to the increasing number of systematic reviews, overviews compare the data of different interventions obtained from systematic reviews and provide decision-makers with a broader summary of current information. By comparing the results of systematic reviews and identifying their contradictions during an overview, health decision-makers face the latest and most reliable results (1, 2). . .

Abstract:

Introduction: Determining the OVERLAP rates is a quantitative method to compare database contents. In this survey, traditional OVERLAP, relative OVERLAP and synthetic degrees of freedom between PubMed as a free database and Scopus as a subscription-based one in the cardiovascular disease field have been determined. Methods: This descriptive applied research was done during January to June 2009. First, the descriptors related to three cardiovascular diseases, namely stroke, high Blood pressure and cerebrovascular accidents, were obtained from Emtree Thesaurus. Then, original articles on the three mentioned problems were retrieved from PubMed and Scopus by searching these descriptors. Primary raw data needed for OVERLAP calculation were obtained using Reference Manager Software. Data analysis was done in Microsoft Excel. Results: A total of 9899 articles on cardiovascular diseases were retrieved from both databases, including 8593 and 7713 articles from PubMed and Scopus, respectively. There were 6407 common titles while 2186 and 1306 titles belonged only to PubMed and Scopus, respectively. The traditional OVERLAPs were 68%, 66.7% and 60.7% for high blood pressure, cerebrovascular accidents and stroke, respectively. Relative OVERLAP between PubMed and Scopus for stroke, high blood pressure and cerebrovascular accidents were 75.8% vs. 75.3%, 89.2% vs. 74.1% and 86.7% vs. 74.3%, respectively. Synthetic degrees of freedom were smaller than 0.5 for the three considered diseases. Conclusion: Due to PubMed's higher relative OVERLAPs versus Scopus's, more user and librarians are led to use PubMed. Larger numbers of retrieved unique articles for each cardiovascular disease from PubMed as compared with Scopus, along the fact that it is free, makes PubMed preferable.

Abstract:

In this paper, we first investigate some properties of lattice-valued quasi-OVERLAP functions, which includes the relation between quasi-OVERLAP functions and three kinds of aggregation functions and the Lipschitz property. Then we provide two new construction methods for lattice-valued quasi-OVERLAP functions. One applies t-conorms and negations, the other involves quasi-OVERLAP functions and implications. Examples are presented and some analytical properties are studied as well.

Abstract:

Trigeminal Neuralgia (TN) is one of the most debilitating pain syndromes, generally affecting middle-aged patients. The disease is two times more common in females and mostly affects the second or third division of the fifth cranial nerve. Although the typical pain syndrome is reported as a lancinating hemifacial pain, the characteristics of pain differ from one patient to another and in a group of patients, the pain may be localized to the teeth, alveolar bone, or even the paranasal sinuses. The latter presentation is the cause of a challenging therapeutic dilemma, as most of the patients undergo unsuccessful dental procedures to relieve their pain. . .
